Korcula

This Prized island presents hidden coves, rolling hills rich in vineyards, olive groves, small villages and heavenly beaches.

Korcula is the sixth largest island in Croatia and surrounded by lush and green beauty. It has beautiful nature and loads of tiny and secluded beaches and bays, small and uninhabited islands and breathtaking views. It is a typical medieval walled Dalmatian city, with its round defensive towers and cluster of red-roofed houses.

Our idea was to hire a car and explore the island but the island was so full of tourists there were absolutely no cars for hire ! After hours of searching for accommodation we eventually settled down in a villa close to the beach and took a walk at dusk along the harbour with moored boats and calm waters we knew were going to love it here. The next day we walked around Korcula old and new city. In the afternoon we took a walk along the beach and found an idyllic spot to lay in the sun and watch the ferries and boats go by. We snorkelled in the rather chilly water and it was glorious.
The food is really cheap if you buy it yourself and we bought a mixture of seafood and prawns and it is extremely cheap, fresh and delicious.
The next day we hired a little 5 horse power fishing boat and had the most idyllic day that I'm sure will never be erased from our memories.
We sailed from island to island before settling on our own private little beach where we were surrounded by aqua and deep blue waters.
We went snorkelling and you could reach out and touch the rocks and the fish it was so clear and calm. We had a picnic and settled in our cove for the rest of the afternoon. It was an awesome experience and one that will remain in my heart forever.
Our last day in Korcula we strolled through the town shopping and eating ice-creams. We got tickets to watch the traditional Sword dance Moreska, which is performed outdoors in the old city. Moreska is a world famous folk drama / dance, and is only performed in Korcula.
It was a magical night filled with warmth and sweet smells in the air. After the sword dance we went and enjoyed a couple of cocktails in the balmy breezy evening in one of the quaint side walk cafes. We were sad to leave Korcula and the incredible time we spent on this earthy and amazing island. Early the following morning we left Korcula on a Katamaran and headed for the Island of Hvar or click to return home.
